The Starlight Run is the first event of the annual Rose Festival in Portland, OR. It's a 5K (3.1 mile) run through the middle of downtown Portland. The run is the opening act for the Starlight Parade which also runs the same route
beginning around 9:00 PM and concluding after 10. It is a "fun-run" in nature with all kinds of weirdos dressing up in costumes and trying to run the course. The picture you see below is from the Rose Festival website. No, that is not Sidnee in the coconut
bra and no that is not me with the
pasty white chest and green grass skirt. Sidnee has been running a lot lately and wanted to enter an actual race so I said I would do it with her. It was a really fun evening and the 250,000 people that lined the parade route were not intimidating at all. The costumes included a family dressed up as Mr. and Mrs.
Pacman and their kids as the ghosts. There were also numerous
iPods and
cross dressers running the race and no fun-run is complete without flashers in trench coats! Only in Portland (well, maybe not only in Portland but I am for sure not
surprised to see it in this crazy liberal town).

A group of friends of ours were downtown that night for a birthday at a restaurant and decided to linger to check out the run and parade. Sidnee and I were hoping we could just do the run and not be seen by anyone we knew but it didn't happen that way. We passed them towards the beginning of the race so we were still looking good but the route brought us back by them a second time towards the end. I made sure to let Sidnee know so we could pick up our heads and knees and pretend like we weren't suffering. We ended up finishing the three miles in just over 33 minutes. One of them said they got a picture of us so I'll post it as soon as I get it.

Way to go you guys!!! What was your times?
That's awesome! Good job!
We like to participate in a 5K/10K run in Sacramento every Thanksgiving (you can stop laughing now... I said "participate", not "run", lol). One year we actually DID run the 10K... that was the year that Ryan was beat by an old power walker and I was beat by Spongebob. lol
I love the way the two of you write. I don't need pictures, you have a exceptional way of explaining the many important details. Glad you enjoyed your "fun run". It sounded like a lot of fun!! Love!!
I'm glad you clarified that it wasn't you with the pasty white chest. Until you said that I thought it was. Good job guys!
That's awesome!! How fun that you got to do that together! I would love to do that with Ben. Portland is a crazy city!!! I also love that Dan does some blogging, Ben was helping me with our little vacation, but her really doesn't have a clue how, it was just easier to let me do it! Although I would love if he helped me out.
Love, Love, Love the new profile pics! You guys crack me up. I am sure there is never a dull moment at the Wolfley household!
Congratulations on your run- very impressive! I was a little disappointed that it wasn't Sid in the coconut bra, I could totally see her doing that-oh well maybe next race!
